Eastern Washington man killed in fiery head-on crash in King County

(SNOQUALMIE, WA.) – The Washington State Patrol says an eastern Washington man lost his life in a head on crash late Tuesday night in King County. Just after 10 pm Tuesday night westbound on State Route 18, just west of Interstate 90 in the Snoqualmie area.

The patrol report says a Gray 2007 Toyota Prius was headed westbound on SR 18 in lane one and a white 2007 Freightliner semi-truck with trailer was traveling eastbound in lane one of two when, for reasons unknown the Toyota crossed the center line and crashed into the semi head-on.

On or shortly after impact the Toyota burst into flames and became “fully engulfed,” according to the WSP report.

The roadway was blocked by the accident for more than five hours.

Killed was the driver of the Toyota,identified as 28-year old Jonathan Klopfstein of Pullman, Washington. He was deceased at the scene.

The driver of the semi truck, identified as 54-year old Mohamud Osman of Seatac, Washington was injured and taken to Overlake Hospital.

Both vehicles were totaled by the crash impact. The patrol report says the cause of the accident is under investigation.
