EXPECT DELAYS ON HY 2 NEAR INDEX
August 01, 2008

(HY 2 NEAR INDEX, WA) -- If you regularly drive US Highway 2, expect daytime delays near Index starting next Tuesday, August 5.

This summer Washington State Department of Transportation crews are building a rock and gravel buttress to stabilize the embankment under the highway. To secure the foundation, crews will use explosives to blast a 300-foot-long notch into the bedrock layer 35 to 40 feet below and 100 feet south of the roadway.

To keep drivers safe during the blasting, crews will close the roadway for up to 20 minutes at a time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Blasting work will continue through the end of August.
