BREAKING NEWS | | DAVID LETTERMAN’S CONTINUED RATINGS BOOST FROM HIS SEX AND BLACKMAIL SCANDAL March 10, 2010

(NATIONAL) --In the strange world of television and the movies where amoral behavior may sometimes be considered normal industry behavior, sometimes scandals can actually translate into job security or better jobs period.
Such is the case with late night TV talk show host David Letterman. A TV performer’s lifeblood is ratings. Ratings go down, TV performer goes out door. Ratings go up, better money, bigger office, more staff follow.
And David Letterman's job security continues to be enhanced, it appears, by the latest news about his sexual liaisons with staffers on his show.
About 4 million people tuned in to see what Letterman would have to say about the guilty plea entered Tuesday by a former TV news producer who admitted he'd tried to shake down the late night host for some $2 million by threatening to expose Letterman's trysts with staffers and interns on his show.
That 4 million audience number is a considerable increase from the 3.7 million he averaged the previous Tuesday.
Robert "Joe" Halderman pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny, admitting in court he tried to blackmail Letterman by threatening to make public Letterman’s sexual activities with people working for his Worldwide Pants production company.
Halderman's sentencing is set for May 4, during the May TV ratings sweeps.
