Cold Case Arrests
Parents of battered, dead child found in ditch 31-years ago have been arrested

(INTERNATIONAL) – Once again DNA has led to arrests, this time in a grisly, unsolved murder case dating back 31 years.
French police have arrested a couple, a man and wife after the mutilated body of an unidentified child was found by the side of a road in central France in 1987.
The BBC reports the as yet unidentified parents of the child were traced after the DNA of their son, tested in an unrelated case, was matched with that of the girl. The parents, believed to be in their 60’s now, will be questioned by a judge Thursday and could face murder charges.
Police re-opened the case in 2012 with a call for witnesses to come forward. The body of the little girl – which bore marks of long term and horrific physical abuse – was found in a ditch alongside a roadway near the city of Bois in August 1987.
The BBC story says the child was described as having a blue checked shirt and curly black hair, possibly of a "Mediterranean (maybe North African) type". The break in the case reportedly happened last year when a man was arrested over a violent incident and his DNA reportedly identified him as the victim's brother.
A long investigation followed which led police to the parents.
