COUNTY PROSECUTOR CANDIDATE ENDORSES I-1068, THE POT MEASURE
June 02, 2010

EVERETT, Wash. – Democrat Jim Kenny endorsed Initiative 1068 Tuesday, the measure that would remove all state criminal penalties for the use, possession and transfer of marijuana for adults with the exception of still being illegal to drive under the influence of the drug.

Kenny, an assistant city attorney in Seattle is running against Snohomish County Prosecutor Mark Roe for Roe’s job. Roe is also a Democrat.

Kenny’s rationale for his position is the staggering cost of the “war on drugs” for some 40 years with little progress to show.

The U.S. federal government spent over $19 billion dollars in 2003 alone on the War on Drugs, at a rate of about $600 per second. The budget has since been increased by over a billion dollars. State and local governments spent at least another 30 billion.

The drug “war c lock” can be found here: http://www.drugsense.org/wodclock.htm
for current amounts being spent this year.
