BREAKING NEWS | | COPYCAT ATTACK: 2ND WOMAN HAS ACID THROWN IN HER FACE September 07, 2010

(MESA, ARIZONA) -- In what appears to be a copycat attack, a woman in Mesa Arizona - Derri Velarde - suffered second-degree burns on her face and shoulders when a woman she did not know threw acid on her Sept 4th. in the parking lot of Velarde’s Arizona apartment.
Velarde told police she was in her parking lot, opened her car door and “I see a woman walking up with what looked like a drink of water in her hand. She just looked at me with these eyes as if she was saying something."
However the stranger said nothing and instead tossed the contents of the cup, which turned out to be acid, onto Velarde’s face. She said it began to burn instantly.
That attack approach differs from the attack on the first victim, Bethany Storro of Vancouver, Washington who said a woman approached her in Portland saying, "Hey pretty girl, do you want to drink this?" and then threw the acid.
Storro was discharged from a burn center Sunday afternoon. She said she did not know her attacker.
Doctors performed surgery on her face last Wednesday night, removing dead skin from the areas that were most deeply injured.
The attackers in both incidents remain at large.
And prior to both of those two attacks there was another acid attack in northern Washington on Friday, Aug. 6.
In that attack, a man reportedly tossed a corrosive chemical into a Puyallup woman's face. He also got away, and remains at large.
