Notice of school closures on Blaine School District website
School officials said an email was received late Thursday warning of a “threat to safety of those on the Blaine campus,” according to a report by The Bellingham Herald which quoted a notice on the school district’s website and in phone calls to parents and staff.
The notice posted in the district’s website said:
“As of late Thursday evening, the Blaine School District is in receipt, via email, of a threat to the safety of those on the Blaine Campus. The email was immediately forwarded on to Blaine Police Department Staff, with whom phone contact was also made.
The threat was specific to Friday, February 23rd. While we await the analysis of the authenticity of the threat, it has been determined that, in the primary interest of the welfare of staff, students and patrons of the Blaine School District, all schools in the Blaine School District will be closed on Friday,
February 23rd. Any additional details specific to this matter will be released under the jurisdiction and direction of the Blaine Police Department.
7:30AM UPDATE: Blaine School District Staff are in consultation this morning with local law enforcement officials specific to the nature of the threat that was received on Thursday night.
What we are learning is that there are multiple threats of a similar, if not identical, context surfacing in other areas of the State, as well as nationally, in the last 24 hours.
Law enforcement staff are in the process of reaching out to other jurisdictions in an attempt to further consider common threads. As we receive updates from our law enforcement officials, we will post that information to this site. We are committed to assuring that all staff, students, and patrons are safe, before school is allowed to resume.”
