A FIRST: CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN TO GET GONDOLA
March 10, 2010

(CRYSTAL MT.) -- Crystal Mountain ski resort in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest plans to start construction in mid-April on an 18-car gondola that could be carrying skiers from the mountain's base to 6,872-foot summit by the start of next winter's ski season.

The $6.5 million dollar construction project is the latest effort by the resort’s owner, Boyne USA, to transform the area into a year-round destination resort instead of just a winter ski resort.

A new terrain park is also planned for down the road along with a new base-area hotel.

The gondola would have covered cars that will allow non-skiing tourists to visit the summit during all seasons as well as increase access for hiking and sightseeing in summer.
