Many ask "where was the beef" at convention?

Seattle Times Columnist Danny Westneat produced an interesting column today centering on the contrasts between the acceptance speeches of presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama as they pertain to dealing with the challenges facing America (“Can Heroic Past Beat Solid Plan For The Future?” http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/dannywestneat/2008160076_danny050.html).

The column hit a few nails squarely on the head and may be reflective of what many Americans are thinking (whether they realize it or not) after watching both the Republican and Democratic conventions.

TRIALS, TRIBULATIONS AND SCARY TIMES AT WALY-WORLD

At first glance the story seemed so bizarre we thought it must have been joke. But it wasn’t. There it was in black & white in the New York Times, a story claiming that Wal-Mart was so concerned (afraid maybe?) about a possible Democratic President come election time the company was getting store managers and department supervisors huddled around the circled (and evidently jittery) Wal-Mart wagons to warn the managers in mandatory meetings that if those ol’ debil Democrats won the White House in November then by God those evil-eyed spawns of the living dead would most likely change a federal law to make it easier for workers to unionize.
