(SULTAN, WA) -- After years of contentious debate, on going friction between a former police chief and two mayors and following a number of accounting and fiscal management issues over the years the Sultan city council voted unanimously last night to eliminate its local police force in favor of a contract for law enforcement services with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.

FEMA CHANGING SULTAN FLOOD PLAIN MAP: WILL BE SHOWN AT MEETING

November 13, 2008

(SULTAN, WA) -- Local Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) officials will present an overview of the flood zone restudy of the Sultan and Skykomish Rivers to a joint meeting of the Sultan City Council and Planning Board on November 18th at Sultan City Hall located at 319 Main Street, Sultan. The meeting will begin at 6:00pm.

SULTAN'S NEW COMP PLAN APPROVED BY STATE

November 13, 2008

(SULTAN, WA) -- On Monday of this week the Central Puget Sound Growth Management Hearings Board found that Sultan’s 2008 revisions to its Sultan 2004 Comprehensive Plan do comply with the State Growth Management Act and thus Sultan will be allowed to end a moratorium on annexations, planned unit developments and subdivisions that has been in place since March 2008.

(SULTAN, WA) -- Some Sultan and Gold Bar reisdents feared a repeat this week of the great flood of two years ago this month, when heavy rains and warm temperatures hit Snohomish County on Thursday. To some, the general weather conditions this year felt eerily similar to November 6, 2006 when rivers across Western Washington neared or exceeded record flows and evacuations were ordered in a handful of cities and neighborhoods.

LAWYER GETS THREE YEARS IN SLAM FOR SULTAN LAND SCAM

(EVERETT, WA) -- A well known former Everett attorney who’s office was a main stay in downtown Everett for almost 30 years has been sentenced to three years in federal prison and 250 hours of community service after admitting he ran a Sultan real estate scam that bilked clients out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
