(SEATTLE, WA.) – Now through July 28 is Paddle Safe Week and the Seattle Police Department says it will be supporting efforts to promote safe paddling practices.

According to the U.S Coast Guard, last year a total of 138 people died while kayaking or canoeing, and 90 percent of those fatalities were due to drowning.
