Judge rejects for-profit Tacoma jail operator’s motion to dismiss AG’s lawsuit over wages paid to detainee workers

(OLYMPIA, WA.) — A federal judge on Thursday rejected an effort by the Northwest Detention Center’s operator, GEO Group, Inc. (GEO), to dismiss Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s lawsuit against the company for allegedly violating Washington’s minimum wage laws.

“The court is clear: GEO cannot avoid accountability by hiding behind its contract with ICE,” Ferguson said in a statement. “This is an important step toward holding this multi-billion dollar company accountable for exploiting its detainee workers in Washington by not following our minimum wage

(SPOKANE, WA.) – Joseph H. Harrington, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington has announced that Carlos Manuel Fleitas, 31, of Miami, Florida, was sentenced on Thursday after having pleaded guilty on January 23rd to conspiracy to commit “access device fraud.”

County Sheriff issues warning about warm temperatures, cold water, kids and water safety

(REGIONAL) – The Snohomish County Sheriff’s office advises parents that the recent warm weather spell also equals a water safety warning: KEEP EYES ON CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES, noting that water temps are still cold (mid-40’s) and that winter storms mean that waters have changed.
