The underground portion of the Amphitheater of El Jem, an ancient and major protected archeological site in the city of El Djem, Tunisia.

It is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

What you are looking at here is the very spot in the Amphitheater's underground where the gladiators went up those stairs you see to the gate of the arena when the "games" started. For them, games usually meant fighting until one of the fighters was dead.

This Amphitheater dates back to around 238 AD when Tunisia belonged to the Roman province of Africa. It is the third biggest ancient amphitheater on the planet and one of the best preserved Roman ruins in the world.

The theater could hold 35,000 cheering, clapping, screaming people -- most of whom it appears had a fabulous time watching those bloody deaths play out in front of their eyes.

Oregon sheriff invokes 5th amendment right 51 times in legal deposition

(NATIONAL) -- A batch of frozen strawberries from Egypt that's been implicated in a seven-state Hepatitis A outbreak and used by Tropical Smoothie Café were not distributed to other restaurants or retailers as far as federal officials know.
