MONROE MAN OPERATES CATHOUSE NOT FAR FROM POLICE STATION

August 03, 2009

This is one of the coolest cathouses you'll ever see. Dennis Gallagher and Sharon Ronsse, a husband and wife team that own and operate the Wood’s Creek Wholesale Nursery on Chain Lake Drive in Monroe, both love cats.

One day five years ago Dennis Gallagher hit upon an idea that would marry their desire to take in “rescue” cats as well as providing the furry felines with a luxurious four-star “cat hotel” in which they could live out the rest of their lives in peace, security and safety.

The result of that idea Dennis had a few years ago is the amazing three-story cathouse you see in the 2-part video

The structure is designed so that the cats, on their own, can go from inside the Gallagher home to a connecting long “catwalk” (a cat suspension bridge) that leads right into their cathouse. Then, whenever they desire, they can return to the inside of the Gallagher house through the same catwalk without Dennis or Sharon ever having to open a single door to let the cats out or in.

And through the entire process of the cats going inside and outside the Gallagher house - and inside and outside their cathouse as well - never once do their pads touch down on a patch of open grass in the back yard which means it is virtually impossible for a coyote or other predator to get to them. They are in every sense protected inside an airy, spacious, rain shielding luxury cocoon.

Gallagher says he built the cathouse because, “I wanted our rescue cats to experience a stimulating and safe outdoor environment without getting killed by coyotes. There’s a standing joke around here that outside cats usually last 6 months to a year before a coyote gets them.”

GOP HEALTH CARE HORROR SHOW

July 29, 2009

This is just too rich too pass up. One of the Sky Valley Chronicle’s crack editorialists predicted back in April 2009 (you can read the editorial HERE) precisely the type of horror show the fear mongers (backed by MILLIONS of dollars in PAC money) would roll out in order to kill any meaningful reform in America’s FUBAR no-health care system.

You know, that swell system that is bankrupting Americans and American businesses and weighing like a 10,000 ton anchor on the productivity of this nation (Starbucks for years has been spending more on health insurance for workers than they do on the raw components to make coffee. Virtually every USA made product you and I buy is overpriced because of the health care mess).

But there are a lot of people making a lot of money off your family's misery (and your falling wages and benefits in order to keep paying the double digit price increases for health insurance every year) by keeping things just the way they are.

Now someone has seemingly lifted our editorial and turned it into some pretty funny images. Click READ MORE to bring up the video player.

GOLD DUST DAYS IN GOLD BAR – July 25, 2009

July 25, 2009

It was a hot, muggy Saturday afternoon in Gold Bar July 25th, the 2nd day of the annual “Gold Dust Days” celebration. Temps were in the low 80’s, the sun was blazing and the humidity was high. Nonetheless a grand time was had by all and cold, fresh fruit smoothies were selling fast. Click READ MORE to bring up the video player and take walk through via the camera’s unblinking eye.

STAND BY ME - PLAYING FOR CHANGE

July 24, 2009

What a brilliant idea. You may have seen this on the electric tee-vee news lately (we don’t watch mainstream tee-vee however, we just look at the pictures). This video is from the award winning documentary, "Playing For Change: Peace Through Music" and has been viewed millions of times

This is the first of many "songs around the world" being released independently. This is a cover version of the Ben E. King classic "Stand By Me" as performed by musicians around the globe adding their part to the song as it (and the producer) traveled the globe.

Here's how they did it: the song begins with one street musician, Roger Ridley who you see at the start, then the producer took that audio to other parts of the globe and had musicians there play or sing their part (meaning adding another music track to the song) as they listened on headphones to the piece done by the musicians before them.
