(SKY VALLEY) -- Today marks the 100th year anniversary of one of the worst train disasters in U.S. history and the worst natural disaster (with the greatest number of fatalities) in Washington State history.
And it happened here in the Sky Valley -- up in the east part of the valley past Index and Skykomish and just off to the left of U.S. Highway 2 and back in the woods a ways.
(INDEX, WA) -- On Saturday Feb 20 staff members from the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and 23 interested citizens spent a “field day” at the Reiter Foothills Forest in the part of the forest where DNR plans a motorized trail system.
(INDEX, WA) – While the Reiter Forest (some call it Reiter foothills) in the Index area remains closed for habitat restoration work, volunteers have joined DNR workers and others in putting elbow grease to shovels to git' er done.
