(REGIONAL) -- In light of the raging wildfires in eastern Washington and extremely challenging weather conditions, State Fire Marshal Chuck Duffy is urging residents to inspect and maintain the "defensible space" around their homes.
(Rouge River-Siskiyou Nat'l Forest, OR.) -- Back from the edge of extinction, the wolves in Washington and Oregon are populating and making their homes quite nicely in the mountains and vasts forests of the Cascade Mountain range.
And that's good news for city folks who look at wolves from afar as majestic symbols of America's wild frontier, but not such good news for at least some of the Northwests's rural farmers and ranchers who worry about the wolves using their cattle, sheep and other livestock as a local supermarket.

Conditions: US2 is closed from Coles Corner at milepost 85 to Leavenworth at milepost 99, due to fire activity. SR 207 and the Chumstick hwy are open as a detour to Leavenworth. No vehicles over 26,000 lbs. allowed on the Chumstick highway. There is no estimated time of reopening.
