EXPECT DELAYS ON HIGHWAY 2 NEAR GOLD BAR STARTING THIS WEEKEND

(GOLD BAR, WA) -- The Washington State Dep’t of Transportation says drivers on U.S. Highway 2 can expect some delays between Gold Bar and index for 19 days starting this Sunday.

The delays will occur as permanent repairs are made to a bridge that was damaged two years ago,

No detour is planned during the single-lane closure. Drivers can use I-90 or SR 20 to avoid delays during construction.

The first closure will start at 8:00 pm this coming Sunday at of the Anderson Creek Bridge between Gold Bar and Index.

On Dec. 27, 2009, a semi carrying a large concrete panel crashed on US 2 east of Gold Bar and a 56,000-pound concrete panel slid off the semi and crashed onto the railing of the Bridge. A few days later crews removed the panel and then made emergency repairs on Jan. 7.

Now crews will make permanent repairs to the bridge and to do this they need to continuously close one lane of US 2 over the Anderson Creek Bridge for up to 19 days. The speed limit through the work zone will be reduced to 35 mph.

Permanent repairs are being made so the bridge meets federal standards. The project will also extend the life of the bridge and improve safety for drivers.

Construction work should be complete by late September.
