(AUBURN, WA.) -- It was a horrible, head on, grinding crash that closed the eastbound lanes of State Route 18 in King County early New Year's Day morning for about four and half hours.
The state patrol says the crash, at about 3:30 am was caused by, "A wrong way driver in a Maroon Subaru. 6 vehicles involved with one driver suffering serious injury."
In all, six vehicles were involved in the pileup not far from Auburn Way. The driver of the wrong way vehicle was headed eastbound in the westbound lanes of SR-18 from Interstate 5.
One person was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. The state patrol is investigating the crash as a vehicular assault case.
