Bremerton Police Officer Fired For Punching Restrained, Intoxicated Man At Hospital
December 22, 2017

(BREMERTON, WA.) — A Bremerton police officer who was hired in February 2015 won't be facing any criminal charges for three times punching a drunk, restrained man who spat in her face but she has been fired from her job.

The incident took place last May as the man was being evaluated at Harrison Medical Center.

The Kitsap Sun Newspaper reported the police union representative for officer Michelle Lynn Griesheimer, 46, was given notice Thursday of her termination by Police Chief Steve Strachan.

The newspaper report says an internal affairs review of the incident found Griesheimer had violated five rules and policies of the department, including violating the man’s constitutional rights, abusing her authority and not being honest.

The report also noted the case was reviewed by legal authorities who came to the conclusion it was highly unlikely prosecutors could prove a crime had occurred beyond a reasonable doubt.

On May 25, Griesheimer arrested the young Navy enlisted man who was punched, Dennis J. Siggins, then 20, after he was accused of driving drunk and grabbing his wife's arm and pulling her out of a gas station restroom.

Siggins, who's stationed aboard the USS Stennis, told the Kitsap Sun he thought Griesheimer was wrong to use that level of force on a person strapped to a gurney but he also told the paper he did not want Griesheimer charged or fired, after finding out what it’s like going through a disciplinary process with the Navy.
