Historic Speech By
Top Democrat:
As right wing media reaches frenzy stage, Sen. Warner warns Trump not to fire Special Counsel Mueller

December 21, 2017

Sen. Mark Warner dlivering his historic speech warning President Trump not to fire Special Counsel Mueller.

Still shot of CNN News broadcast 12/21/17 revealing results of new CNN poll about public trust in how special counsel Robert Mueller is handling the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election that was designed to help Donald Trump.
Update 12/21/17 4:47 pm to the story below: More Americans say they approve of how special counsel Robert Mueller is handling the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election than say they disapprove, a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS has found, "while most Americans say President Donald Trump's public statements on the probe have not been truthful," according to a new report by CNN.

Nearly half of Americans, 47%, say they approve of Mueller's handling of the probe into Russia's involvement in the presidential race and the possibility of collusion with the Trump campaign. By contrast just 34% say they disapprove and 19% remain undecided.

The survey also shows widespread mistrust of Trump's public statements on the Russian probe. A majority of Americans, 56%, say Trump's comments on the Russia probe have been mostly or completely false vs. only 35% who say they've been true. Only 8% of Americans overall say Trump's comments have been "completely true." End update

Chronicle news & opinion

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- There appear to be a lot of people in Washington, including in the White House as well as in the hallways of the now frenzied extreme right wing media, who seem to be getting quite nervous about a certain investigation.

After weeks of the right wing media echo chamber purposely creating a phony buzz, beating the angry jungle drums for the firing of Special Counsel Mueller - and Republicans in Congress silent about what is happening here, the rule of law being assaulted in a planned manner by the promotion wing of the GOP - Sen. Mark R. Warner, D-Va., the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee warned President Donald Trump in an important speech before Congress Wednesday night, against firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller from his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

That would be the Russkie interference that was designed to defeat Hillary Clinton and get Donald Trump elected.

During his historic speech on the Senate floor Warner said, "Any attempt by this president to remove Special Counsel Mueller from his position, or to pardon key witnesses to shield them from any accountability, or shut down the investigation, would be a gross abuse of power and a flagrant violation of executive branch responsibilities and authorities."

'

Warner said Mueller should be able to see the investigation through until its conclusion without interference or obstruction from the Trump administration. He said that if the administration attempts to influence the probe in any way, it would not only "call into question this administration's commitment to the truth," but also create a "constitutional crisis."

"In the United States of America, no one is above the law, not even the president. Congress must make clear to the president that firing the special counsel, or interfering with his investigation by issuing pardons of essential witnesses, is unacceptable, and would have immediate and significant consequences," Warner said.
