(INDEX, WA) -- Search crews on Sunday located the body of a 30-year-old Everett man who disappeared while hiking with his brother in the Cascade Mountain foothills just east of Index, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

The two brothers had reportedly gone hiking Saturday on an old, unmarked and not well-maintained fishermen's trail that leads to Lake Simms.

They became separated and one of the brothers finished the hike at the intended destination and waited for the other brother who never arrived.

The brother that was waiting called 911 for help. Rescue crews searched Saturday night and by Sunday morning searchers in a helicopter found the missing brother’s body in the Lake Simms area.

It appeared the man had fallen to his death.

Efforts to recover the body may extend into Monday.
