Prison inmate gouges out cellmate’s eyes, cuts off his ear, wears it as necklace to breakfast

(NATIONAL) – Authorities say a Florida prison inmate murdered his cellmate, gouged out his eyes and wore his ear as a necklace, with prison guards not knowing anything was amiss until the next day, according to a report in the Miami Herald.
The newspaper reported the murderer was, “Able to strangle and mutilate his cellmate, gouge out his eyeballs, wrap his blood-soaked body in a sheet and walk into the prison’s chow hall wearing the dead inmate’s ear strung around his neck before officers learned anything was amiss.”
The paper based its reporting on unnamed prison sources. The story says the unnamed inmate, at a prison about 50 miles west of Jacksonville, strangled to death his 58-year-old cellmate Thursday morning for “pestering” him, then removed the dead man’s eyeballs and cut off his ear.
The inmate then reportedly put that ear on a string and wore it around his neck, showing it off to several other prisoners before breakfast.
The killer also reportedly left the dead man’s eyeballs in a cup in his cell and told other prisoners he intended to eat or drink them later on.
