A Weekend Of Festivals In The Northwest

(REGIONAL) – Last week the mighty Chronicle reported, as we are want to do from time to time, that right now Washington state is in the middle of the beating red heart of festival season.

And we meant every word of it. So now comes Volume 2 in that effort. All the fun festival stuff that’s on tap for this weekend.

Pay attention. There will be a test later.

AUG 8-11: Skagit County Fair located at the Skagit County Fairgrounds,1410 Virginia Street, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. A big country fair for the whole family. Includes a carnival, farm animals, lots of local entertainment, various displays, a kids zone, lots of vendors, fair food and more. Hours: 10am-10pm daily.

AUG 11: The fabulous and 15th annual Index Arts Festival which is in the upper Sky Valley of east Snohomish County, where all the women are strong and pump iron, all the men are movie star pretty and all the kids are so far above average they start to levitate by the age of two. Yer gonna find abut 50 artists selling their work (paintings, hand crafted items, etc.) plus live music, food etc. in a nice country setting in a small mountain village that has only a bit over 100 year round dwellers. The setting alone is gorgeous. Hours: 10 am - 10 pm Saturday in Doolittle Park just across the bridge into town. Admission and parking is free.

AUG 11: Auburn Fest 2018. A big summer time family-fun festival held each year at Les Gove Park, 910 9th Street SE, Auburn, WA 98002. Lots of entertainment on two stages, bookoo food vendors, a beer garden, craft and specialty vendors, community and non-profit vendors, a car show, lots of kids activities including an indoor playground and more. Hours: 11am-8pm.

AUG 10-12: Kirkland Summerfest. A big music and arts festival on the shores of Lake Washington (called “the largest festival of music and art on the waterfront of Lake Washington”) located in downtown Kirkland at Marina Park, 25 Lakeshore Plaza Drive. Three days of rockin’ bands, juried artists, kid's fun and great food. 10 am to 7 pm each day.

AUG 10-12: Taste of Edmonds in Edmonds, WA. A fabulous (36th annual) food and wine festival. Three days of good grub, music, vendors, rides, beer/wine and fun. Voted one of the “Top 100 North American Festivals”, there’s fun stuff for everyone, including all you malcontents. FREE parking and shuttle service is offered from Edmonds-Woodway High School, located at 212th Street SW and 76th Avenue W. Shuttles run every 15 minutes each day, starting at 11 a.m. and ending 30 minutes after the festival closes.

AUG 10-12: The Festival At Mt. Si in North Bend, WA. Live music (they tried dead music one year but it didn’t work out), scavenger hunt, hoop shoot contest, kiddie parade, Grand Parade, a kids zone, amazing pet contest, arts and crafts booths and much more. Hours: Fri 5pm-9pm; Sat 10am-7pm; Sun 10am-4pm.

AUG 11-12: It’s the Coupeville Arts & Crafts Festival. Location, along the Historic Waterfront in Coupeville which is on Whidbey Island. Draws about 15,000 people each year. Lots of artists & vendors selling all manner of arts & crafts, entertainment, kids activities, a juried art gallery, food vendors and more. Hours: Sat 10am-6pm, Sun 10am-5pm.

AUG 11-12: 2018 Festival Of The River Pow-Wow in Arlington, WA. Two days of live music, 5k fun run, storytelling, entertainment stage, logging show, rides, zip line, petting zoo, food and craft vendors, the traditional dances and culture of Native American tribes and much more.

AUG 11: the 2018 Delridge Day Festival in West Seattle. Lots of vendors, skating competition, games, live music, food trucks and much more. Free admission. Hours: 11am-3pm. Location: Delridge Community Center and Park, 4501 Delridge Way SW Seattle, WA 98106.

AUG. 16: The “So Bazaar Night Market” in downtown Redmond, WA. Music, vendor booths, a wine and beer garden, food trucks and more. Free admission. Hours: 5pm-10pm.
