Montesano, WA man killed, Olympia woman injured

(SUNNYSIDE, WA.) – The Washington State Patrol says a tire blow-out on an Interstate Highway in eastern Washington led to a bad accident that killed one Washington state resident and injured another.
The accident happened Wednesday afternoon just after 4:00 pm.
The patrol report says a 1995 GMC Jimmy SUV was headed westbound on Interstate 82, about a mile east of Sunnyside in Yakima County when a tired on the SUV blew out.
The driver, attempting to maintain control, “overcorrected” with the steering, the vehicle then rolled and came to a stop on its top in the median of the highway, according to the WSP accident memo.
The vehicle was totaled.
Injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle was the driver, identified as 33-year old Diane L. Hughes of Olympia, Washington.
Also injured and taken to the Astria Regional Medical Ceenter was a passenger, identified as 34-year old Patrick B. Carpenter of Montesano, Washington.
The patrol report says Mr. Carpenter was pronounced deceased at the medical center just after 11:00 pm Wednesday night.
