(KEY PENINSULA, WA.) – The Pierce County Sheriff’s office says a suspect is in custody in connection with a double murder that occurred early Saturday morning in the Longbranch area of Key Peninsula.
Key Peninsula is a strip of land in Pierce County about 16 miles long and extends south from the Kitsap Peninsula. Longbranch is one of several small towns on the Peninsula.
In a statement issued Saturday the sheriffs office said that just before 3:00 am Saturday morning a woman called 911 call to report a shooting at a mobile home in the 5500 block of Whiteman Road in the Longbranch area.
The caller reported that two people had been shot and that a “known suspect” had fled the property.
“As deputies were en-route to the residence, the responding deputies located the 27-year old male suspect walking in the 4700 block of Whiteman Rd. and placed him into custody,” said the sheriff’s statement.
When deputies arrived at the residence they found a deceased 35-year old man and a 25-year old woman dead in the driveway near two vehicles.
“Detectives have learned that the suspect and the victims were involved in an argument where multiple shots were fired; the confrontation may be related to a recent domestic violence assault involving the suspect,” said the statement.
Saturday morning’s incident involved “multiple firearms” and detectives are also looking at drugs as a possible contributing factor.
The sheriff’s office also said the victims’ two year old son was in the back of their vehicle in the driveway area during the shooting.
Luckily the boy was not injured and has been placed with a relative who does not live on the property.
The 27 year old male suspect was booked into the Pierce County Jail for two counts of Murder in the 2nd degree.
