(PIERCE COUNTY, WA.) – Law officers and K-9 units from several jurisdictions scoured the area Friday night for their suspect, but he somehow escaped the dragnet.

Luckily, nobody got hurt in what was a dicey turn of events that started when a man rammed the stolen Ford F250 truck he was driving into a police patrol car.

Those events started out early Friday night around 5:30 pm when a 911 call came in, “from a citizen reporting a suspicious truck,” in a neighborhood near Monterey Lane and Contra Costa Avenue, said a tweet just after 6 pm from the Pierce County Sheriffs office. ‘

A Fircrest Police officer arrived on scene responding to the 911 call, got his patrol car behind the truck and tried to perform a traffic stop but the driver rammed the patrol car with the truck, said the sheriff’s office.

The officer then got out of his car and the driver of the truck attempted to run over the officer and then sped away. The officer reportedly fired one shot from his service pistol, which hit the truck. About five blocks away the driver ditched the vehicle and ran.

Police set up a containment area and residents were asked to stay inside and keep their doors locked while an extensive, hours long search of the area ensued by numerous officers and police dogs.

The suspect was able to get away. By just after 9 pm the K9 searches had been completed and local roads were reopened except for the scene where the truck was abandoned. That area remained closed for a while longer as the investigation continued

Officers found that stolen truck had the plates switched out and the ignition had been punched out evidently to facilitate the theft. Inside the rig was stolen stuff, several backpacks full of swag. It appeared that the perpetrator of the night’s events had been a busy boy.

The suspect was described as a white male, in his 20's and wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.

Police did not know if the suspect was armed.
