Sedro Woolley and Sultan Residents Injured In 3-Car Crash On
Highway 2 Near Monroe

(MONROE, WA.) -- The Washington State Patrol says three people were injured Friday night during a three car smash up on State Route 2, just a few miles east of Monroe that totaled all three vehicles.
The accident happened just before 5:30 pm in the midst of the busy Friday night going home traffic at State Route 2 & 227th Ave. SE near the Reptile Zoo attraction.
The patrol report says a 2007 Pontiac G6 and a 1995 Toyota Camry were headed eastbound on the highway near milepost 17 when the Camry slowed for traffic and was hit from behind by the Pontiac.
The Camry then rotated into the westbound lane where it was crashed into in the passenger side by a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country sedan that was traveling westbound on the highway.
Injured and taken to Providence hospital was the driver of the Toyota Camry identified as 66-year old Rosemary E. Wenzl of Sultan, Washington. Her vehicle as totaled by the impact.
Also injured and taken to Providence was the driver of the Chrysler identified as Shawn W. Hampton, 26, of Sedro Woolley, Washington along with a passenger, 27-year old Samantha M. Andrew also of Sedro Woolley. The vehicle was totaled by the impact.
Not injured was the driver of the Pontiac, identified as 31-year old Brian A. West of Gold Bar, Washington. His vehicle was totaled by the impact.
The patrol report says the cause of the pileup is under investigation and that charges are "pending."
