Sultan Harvest Free Community Dinner Set For Nov. 23

(SULTAN, WA.) -- You and yours are hereby invited to the 16th annual, free Sultan Harvest community dinner in November.

The producers of this superb and well established gig have personally requested the mighty Sky Valley Chronicle, the most widely read and highly rated news publication in the history of the Sky Valley, get the word out on this post haste. That means wiki-wiki.

Produced by the fine folks at the Sultan Harvest Committee, in partnership with the Volunteers of America (VOA) Sky Valley Services Center, this year's dinner will be held Nov. 23rd from Noon to 4 pm in the Sultan High School Commons.

The high school is located at 13715 310th Ave. S.E. in Sultan.

“Sultan Harvest is an amazing, heartfelt event organized by the community for the community,” says volunteer Christina Sivewright. “It represents Sultan at its finest, as it welcomes guests from all over the Sky Valley for a freshly-cooked Thanksgiving dinner.”

A first class feed

It's a first class hoedown, this big free feed for the holidays: traditional Thanksgiving Day meal with turkey and all the trimmings, typically including green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy.

Seriously, who could say no to a sit-down grub fest like that?

Dessert (our favorite part) often includes a selection of freshly-baked pies, including pumpkin and apple with plenty of whipped cream. Yum.

A “sandwich station” is available to guests who wish to get a head start on their post-Thanksgiving Day sandwiches and deliveries will be available to those with mobility issues.

This is a well thought out, well planned, superbly executed and very popular event every year. Last year they did like 600 guests. That's big for a town Sultan's size.

You could compare that draw to a grand opening of a new Hooter's location and a big Cabelas store opening next door. Hot babes, ammo, camo and guns. Now that's America son.

The dinner is for everyone

Sultan Harvest embraces families, youth, seniors, Veterans and everyone in between. In addition to food and conversation you'll find the annual Sultan Harvest warm clothing giveaway provides coats, hats, scarves and blankets to anyone in need.

And, as is fitting for a gig that ushers in the holiday season, the event also includes a visit from the real Santa Claus (not a cheap department store Santa knock-off) who's available for photos which are printed for free onsite.

Now is that cool or what? In fact, if you DON'T show up for this dinner we just may prohibit you from reading this newspaper for an entire year just to teach you a lesson.

So don't make us get up off this couch and open up a can of you-know-what.

And now a word from our sponsors

The Sultan Harvest dinner is planned, organized and carried out by volunteers.

Donations of food, cash, supplies, coats, hats and blankets are always needed and welcome. You can drop them off at the Sultan Visitor Information Center, located at 320 Main Street, or the VOA Center, located at 701 First Street, both in Sultan.

Sponsorship opportunities are available to local businesses interested in supporting the event.

Donations to Sultan Harvest via the VOA are tax-deductible.

For more information or to learn about volunteer opportunities send a message on the Sultan Harvest Facebook page, located at https://www.facebook.com/sultanharvest/.

And so there ya go.
