FOUR COUNTIES NOW HAVE BURN BAN
December 10, 2009
(REGIONAL) -- Don’t be burning any trash outside or, in most cases, having any cozy fires in the fireplace or you could get a fine.
A Stage 2 burn ban is now in effect for four Western Washington counties – Snohomish, King, Kitsap and Pierce – and that means no burning wood in fireplaces unless it's your only source of adequate heat, no campo fires, no slash burns, etc.
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency says the cold, clear weather conditions along with heavy use of wood burning devices have created pollution levels that are unhealthy for some people.
It is not expected the burn ban will be removed before Saturday.
Under a Stage 2 burn ban:
~ No burning is allowed in ANY wood-burning fireplaces, wood stoves or fireplace inserts or pellet stoves, unless it’s your only adequate source of heat.
~ And even if your fireplace, pellet stove, or wood stove is the only adequate source of heat, no visible smoke is allowed.
~ No outdoor fires are allowed.
~ Burn ban violations are subject to a $1,000 fine.
~ It is okay to use natural gas and propane stoves or inserts during a Stage 2 burn ban.
